Benefits of Prepaid Phone Plans
Why Choose to Pay As You Go?
Nowadays, it seems everyone has a cell phone. If you want to carry a cell phone, either for personal or business purposes, but cannot get a contract with a major cell phone provider due to credit blunders, or don’t want to feel “locked in”, then a prepaid phone plan is a way to go. With no contract, comes no credit check.
If for some reason you cannot hold up your end of the bargain, the breach of contract may be reported to the credit bureaus, making your credit rating even worse—meaning you’ll have an even more difficult time securing a cell phone contract.
A two-year contract is a big obligation. Your circumstances may change, and if you have to cancel your service, you’re going to have to pay a per line cancellation fee. If you have a smartphone, expect those fees to be around $350/per line. Don’t pay those fees, and your credit will suffer a major blow.
It’s important to remember that credit inquiries will stay on your report for years, and too many inquire too close together signals you’re “shopping” for credit, and your rating will suffer. Even if you have a particularly good rating, you don’t want all the major networks checking you out while you’re shopping for the best deal.
Control Over Your Bill
If you opt for a contract plan, you’ll have to remain on the same plan for the duration of the contract in most cases. If you realize you’re not using all the minutes and/or data allotted on your plan, you may have to sign a new contract or pay a penalty for downgrading. With prepaid phone plans, you pay for what you use and can change accordingly, without worry.
Freedom to Choose What’s Best for You
Live in an area where certain cell phone providers don’t have decent coverage unless you want to talk outside? Talk to friends and family on various carriers and see who has the best coverage. You’re free to change networks whenever you want.
Choose a traditional phone that is used for talk and text. Opt for a smartphone. Opt for a monthly unlimited plan, or pay as you go, only for the minutes and data you use. Opt for a single line or family line plan. Choose the network you want, and the phone you want. Talk on the phone as much as you want, or save it for emergencies only. No matter how often or how you will use your phone, there is a plan out there that will suit your needs. Change your mind next month if you want to!
You Own the Phone
Since you’re not under contract, you buy the phone outright, which means it’s yours. This comes with a number of benefits in and of itself.
While a prepaid phone may require the initial investment of purchasing the phone, you can typically get the phone you want with the first month of service, for cheaper than you would pay a deposit with a provider under a contract. The reality is, you can get prepaid services from all the major carriers who offer contract plans, so you’re getting the same service you would under a contract, with a greater deal of flexibility, and usually at a lower price. There are so many different options for cell phone service right now and so many factors to consider to get the very best deal for you.
